Dr. Badour Awarded Collaborative Grant to Study Flood Recovery Experience in Eastern Kentucky

Dr. Christal Badour and Dr. Mairead Moloney were awarded a pilot grant to 1) interview Eastern Kentucky residents and representatives from community advocacy organizations about their flood recovery experiences, and 2) develop a Community Advisory Board to partner with researchers in determining priorities for long-term mental health recovery efforts. 

Funding for this project comes from the National Center for Research Resources, the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences National Institutes of Health, through Grants UL1TR001998 and ES026529, The Tracy Farmer Institute for Sustainability and the Environment, the UK Center for the Environment, and the UK Vice President for Research.

Christopher Penn receives UNITE Predoctoral Research Enhancement Award

Jordyn Tipsword receives F31 National Research Service Award (NRSA) from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)

  • Ashley Dixon has accepted a Research Coordinator position at the Medical University of South Carolina in the Addiction Sciences Division of the Department of Psychiatry

Christopher Penn Assumes Leadership Role in UK Psychology Advocacy Group

Christopher is serving as the President of the UK Psychology Advocacy Group. The  graduate student advocacy group aims to provide opportunities to advance psychological health, to increase awareness about mental health issues, and to reduce stigma surrounding mental illnesses through community outreach, public education, and legislative advocacy.

Congratulations to Abbey Loar, who was awarded a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURE) from the UK College of Arts and Sciences and to Zach Siegel, who was awarded a Commonwealth Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) Fellowship from the UK Office for Undergraduate Research. These fellowships will support Abbey and Zach to conduct research in the STARRC lab this summer. 

 

Jessica Flores Awarded Competitive Graduate Research Fellowship from the UK Center for Equality and Social Justice

Congratulations to Jessica, who was awarded a $5,000 Summer Graduate Research Fellowship from the University of Kentucky Center for Equality and Social Justice to support her dissertation research project focused on testing a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive model of sexual health, sexual risk behavior, and intimate partner violence among young adult Latinas.
